Kota Kinabalu, the best startingpoint for travellers that want to explore Borneo. Kota Kinabalu is a city that is rapidly growing. Although most people will tell you that Kota Kinabalu is a transit city, I don’t think it is. I think this city got much more to offer than just the good connection to other places on Sabah. To start with the city got more than 10 big shoppingmalls where you don’t only find shops but also great food courts, restaurants and of course the safe haven of the good aircon in those buildings ;). And if you can’t get enough shopping in the malls Kota Kinabalu got a lot of good markets to offer like the handicraft market or the Filipino market. The Filipino market is a good place to eat in the evening, the fresh catch of the day will be served there.
Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park
A popular daytrip to do when you are in Kota Kinabalu is a trip to one of the islands in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marinepark. Okay this name you will not hear very often but say Gaya Island, Sapi island or Manukan island and everybody will know were you’re talking about. These three islands are the most popular islands of the park. Sulug and Mamutik are the other two islands that belong to this national marine park. The islands are easily accessible with a ferry and will take approximately 20 min to bring you there. Once you’re there you’ll enjoy the beautiful bounty beaches and great snorkeling spots. Most people just go to the islands for one day, relax and sunbathe.
Mount Kinabalu
One of the highest mountains of South-East Asia will amaze and challenge you. Go up Mount Kinabalu in a 2-day trip and enjoy the astonishing views that this mountain will give you. You have to be fit or just need to know what it is to walk up a mountain but I personally think that it is doable for most of us. Just take your time and enjoy this highlight.
